Over the years, statistics shows that most of the states in the northern part of the Country hardly filled their quota in our Universities in general and Ahmadu Bello University in particular. The standard of students produced in most of these states has always seen also as being very low. These are largely attributed to the caliber of teachers teaching in our secondary schools and the massive failure of students in their final year Senior Secondary School Examinations. In an attempt to tackle this unfortunate situation, the School of Basic and Remedial Studies (SBRS) Funtua was established in 2003. It among others, undertake pre-degree programme- THE REMEDIAL PROGRAMME.The remedial section of the school also organizesJAMB CLINICclasses for all students and SPECIAL classes for students with deficiencies in their O-Levels.The Remedial programme generally last for Nine (9) months divided into two semesters. During this period, students are exposed to intensive lectures from Mondays to Thursdays every week and a weekly C.A. test on Fridays.
CATCHMENT AREAThe School being established by the Northern State Governments is open to all interested applicants from the 19 Northern States and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.
ENTRY REQUIREMENTSCandidates aspiring to gain admission in Ahmadu Bello University Zaria via SBRS’s Remedial programme must:
GROUPS & SUBJECT COMBINATIONSAll successfully admitted and registered students are placed into one of the four (4) academic groups:- RS1, RS2, RS3 or RS4. Each student is given a group by considering his/her intended feature carrier and the O-Level credits obtained. Courses in each group are:
Note:English Language and General Mathematics are compulsory for all students apart from the subject combinations they are expected to offer in their various groups.
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS INTO THE UNIVERSITYAdmission in Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria is automatic provided a student successfully completes the remedial programme as follows:
